Hello, I'm Gigi Morales David, and I'm a children's author and a native of Jacksonville, Florida. I speak fluent Spanish and treasure my Cuban heritage. I grew up with many cousins, over 15, who are the inspiration for my work. I began writing poetry while I was in elementary school. My mother, Georgina, sent my poems to Cuba to be translated in a poetic fashion by my grandfather. Several of my poems appear in books such as Creating Readers with Poetry by Dr. Nile Stanley. Besides writing, I have taught pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade. I was also a Vice Principal and Principal of an elementary school. Currently, I am teaching students at University of North Florida who want to become teachers. Peter and the Silent Siren was my first published book for the United Way's Life Act 2 - Multigenerational Early Literacy Collaboration (MELC) project. This was followed by The Little Red Envelopes in 2006. This project was designed to help children value relationships with elderly people in their community. My new book, Just Mollie and Me, is now available. I am married and have two wonderful teenage kids and three black and white cats. My cats’ names are Mini Oreo AKA Mo, Blackout AKA Bo, and Domino.
